The MoCP is the world's first college art photography-focused museum. It was founded in 1976 by Columbia College Chicago and has since expanded to approximately 16,500 works by over 1,500 artists. Museum is located on South Michigan Avenue and houses both permanent and rotating exhibits.
This audio guide will take you through the permanent exhibition which explores the pressing issues of modern society portrayed by emerging artists, as well as the most prominent and meaningful works of established photographers. Such notable photographers as Julia Margaret Cameron, Walker Evans, Irving Penn, and Aaron Siskind, will show you how social, political and cultural issues can be expressed through arts. You will hear how Ansel Adams used his work at Yosemite National Park to promote conservation of nature and why Dorothea Lang became an icon of the Great Depression Period.
