Best Hanoi Tours in 2026 – Book Self-Guided Experiences

Hanoi

This self-guided audio walk introduces first-time visitors to Hanoi through its layered history, sacred spaces, public monuments, and museums. It will appeal to travelers who want more than a quick checklist and prefer to understand the city through places that still shape daily life.

The route begins in Hoan Kiem, the historic heart of Hanoi, where busy streets, old shopfronts, and the atmosphere around the lake set the scene. From there, you head to Quan Thanh Temple, a Taoist sanctuary dating back to the 1200s, known for its spacious courtyard and revered bronze statue. The walk continues past the Viet Nam National Assembly Building to Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, where the broad square and solemn architecture reveal the weight of modern national history.

You then move on to the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum for a look at Vietnamese art across periods and styles, before turning toward the Vietnamese Women's Museum, whose collections explore women's lives, work, and dress. After that, the route reaches Hoa Lo Prison Relic, where surviving walls and cells give a stark sense of the prison's past. The tour ends at Ngõ 224 Lê Duẩn.

Along the way, the most memorable moments include the contrast between temple incense and government stone, the quiet intensity of the mausoleum precinct, vivid artworks in a colonial-era building, and the haunting atmosphere inside Hoa Lo.
