This in-app audio guide will lead you through 1,500 years of human creativity with special focus on Tibetan art by ascending the famous spiral staircase of the Rubin Museum.
Established in 1974 as a private collection, the museum grew into 5 floors of exhibits including paintings, statues, textile and more from Tibet, India, Nepal, Mongolia and other Eurasian cultures. Authentic Buddhist atmosphere is created in the moment you walk through a Mandala-shaped entrance. Colorful spiral staircase designed by Andree Putman is the centrepiece of the museum and goes through all the five floors of the gallery. Go deep into the notions of power, transcendance, sactitude, healing practices and emotional health exploring permanent collections showcased in rotating alcoves on all the five floors of the museum. Visit the Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room on the second floor featuring simulated flickering butter candles, audio of Tibetan monks and nuns praying, and hear about Tibetan rituals and traditions. Get the immersive experience through smelling, touching and breathing in the Mandala Lab on the third floor.
