Bou Inania Madrasa: Self-Guided Audio Tours

Explore Fez el Bali on a self-guided walking audio tour for first-time visitors curious about the city’s history, craftsmanship, and daily life. Stories along the route reveal how worship, learning, and trade have shaped the medina’s winding streets for centuries. The walk begins at Bab Bou Jeloud, the blue-tiled western gateway, and follows busy market lanes past the Bou Inania Madrasa, also known as Madrasa Bouanania. Continue to the Nejjarine Fondouk and the Mosque and University of Karaouiyne, then listen for the hammering of metalworkers at Seffarine Square. The route carries on to the Chouara Tanneries before reaching Bab Guissa and finishing at the Marinid Tombs, where the old city spreads out below. Along the way, you’ll see intricate tilework and carved wood, hear the sounds of working craft shops, and take in the vivid vats of the tanneries. The final hilltop view offers a memorable perspective on the dense medina you’ve just explored.
