Torre d'en Galmés: Entry Ticket
Torre d'en Galmés: Entry Ticket

From its location atop a hill, the Talaiotic settlement of Torre d'en Galmés would have held control of all its surrounding territory. Step back to the past and see what has been preserved from this Iron Age civilisation. During your visit you'll be able to see three talayots, numerous circular houses; a water collection system; several burial caves; and a taula enclosure, where a small bronze statuette representing the Egyptian god Imhotep was found. Torre d'en Galmés was occupied from 2000 BC until the medieval Christian conquest of 1287. It is estimated that during its peak, between 1100 BC and the second century BC, it would have accommodated a population of about 900 people. The Torre d'en Galmés Interpretation Centre provides interesting resources to interpret the remains, understand the historical moment, and appreciate the uniqueness of this spectacular archaeological site.

Delve deeper into Menorca's history with a visit to the defensive Tower of Fornells. Discover what day-to-day life was like for the occupying British force stationed there and see an impressive piece of early 19th-century engineering. Fornells Tower was built to guard the entrance to Fornells harbour and prevent enemies from coming ashore and attacking nearby Sant Antoni Castle. A small garrison would have controlled the local area, ready to repel a potential enemy invasion. Inside the tower, there was storage for weapons, ammunition, and food, as well as a floor that housed the garrison and an artillery platform. The original entrance of the truncated cone-shaped tower, reinforced with sandstone blocks, was on the first floor and was reached by a wooden ladder that could be pulled up in the event of an attack.
