Khiva: Self-Guided Audio Walk Through the Walled Silk Road City
Khiva: Self-Guided Audio Walk Through the Wal...

This self-guided audio walking tour explores the heart of Khiva’s Itchan Kala, the walled inner city, and is ideal for first-time visitors who love Silk Road history, Islamic architecture, and places that still feel enclosed by the past. You will follow the route at your own pace while the stories around each monument bring the city’s brick walls, blue tiles, and carved wood to life. The walk begins at the Kalta Minor Minaret, the unfinished turquoise tower that immediately sets the tone for Khiva’s skyline, then continues to the Mohammed Amin Khan Madrassah beside it. From there, you head to the Kuhna Ark, the old citadel of Khiva’s rulers, before crossing to the dim, atmospheric Juma Mosque with its forest of wooden columns. The route then leads east to the tiled courtyards of Toshhovli Palace and on to the Pahlavan Mahmoud Mausoleum, one of the city’s most revered shrines. Your tour ends at the Islam Khoja Minaret, the tallest minaret in Khiva, where the old city seems to gather beneath you in bands of sunlit brick and glazed blue decoration. Along the way, the most memorable moments include standing beneath the massive, cut-short Kalta Minor, stepping through palace courtyards lined with patterned ceramics, and seeing how light filters across ancient carved pillars inside the Juma Mosque.
