This self-guided audio tour invites travelers interested in ancient civilizations, archaeology, and the rich Maya heritage to discover one of Mexico’s most extraordinary archaeological treasures. (!) Note! This tour DOES NOT include an entrance ticket, which can be purchased on site. Palenque is open daily from 8:00-16:30, and the total cost comes out to around 120 Mexican Peso. After purchasing your ticket, there are two entrances to the ruins, but there’s no signage which clearly points this out. Follow the map in the app to find the right entrance. Set within the lush jungles of Chiapas, the tour offers an immersive experience into the grandeur of the Classic Maya period. Explore the solemn Temple of the Red Queen and the towering Temple of the Inscriptions, housing the tomb of King Pakal. Visit the intricate complex of The Palace with its commanding tower, then continue to the ingenious ancient Aqueduct. The route winds through evocative sites including Temple XIV, the solar-themed Temple of the Sun, the cosmological Temple of the Cross, and the enigmatic Temple XIX. Nearby stands the Temple of the Jaguar, rich in symbolism, before concluding at the Palenque Site Museum “Alberto Ruz Lhuillier,” which showcases the most important artifacts and archaeological discoveries.
