About Treasurer's House

The Treasurer's House is open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Wednesday and Saturday to Sunday.

If you want to enjoy the garden of the Treasurer's House as well as the house itself, it's preferable to visit it from June to early September. Also, be mindful that booking in advance is much more practical and that you must be on time.

The Treasurer's House, a former house of the Treasurers of York Minster (hence the name), underwent many changes over the course of its history. Thanks to a wealthy industrialist, Frank Green, the house got a new lease of life and was restored to its former glory. Later on, Green donated the building and all its contents to the National Trust. So, what can you do there today?

  • Enjoy the beautiful garden. This small but enchanting garden has won many awards; it's a perfect place to take a break from the chaos and haste of city living. The best part – it's completely free!
  • Explore a unique house. The Treasurer's House is an unusual blend of styles and elements from different periods. Additionally, visitors can enjoy an impressive collection of art and antiques obtained by Frank Green during his travels.
  • Learn more about Frank Green. The Treasurer's House wouldn't exist in its current state without this person; you can explore his life during your visit to the house.

It's best to hire a taxi or walk on foot to get to the Treasurer's House. There are no bus stops near the house, which is somewhat inconvenient.
