Tickets to the York Art Gallery

You can visit the gallery throughout the year, so it's up to you to decide when to do it. We recommend going to the gallery on weekdays in the morning to avoid crowds.

The York Art Gallery is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday to Sunday.

The York Art Gallery hosts an impressive collection of art, from 14th-century Italian paintings to 20th-century ceramics by British Studio Ceramics. Here are the gallery's highlights:

• Sin. This temporary exhibition explores the depictions of sin and morality in art throughout history. The crown jewel of this exhibition is eight exceptional paintings on loan from the National Gallery.
• The Centre of Ceramic Art. This exhibition features an extensive collection of British Studio Ceramics and other ceramic artifacts. You can also take part in the Yorkshire Tea Ceremony – a temporary event centered around W.A. Ismay's impressive collection of British pottery.
• The Anthony Shaw Collection. The contents of this collection are on a long-term loan from Anthony Shaw, who has been collecting art for 40 years. The current display, Themes, encourages its visitors to look at art from a different perspective.
• The Burton Gallery. This exhibition hosts the most well-known paintings in the gallery's extensive collection. Here you can admire the works of the Italian Old Masters, Dutch and Flemish painters of the 17th century, and the early modernists. And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

The York Art Gallery is located to the northwest of York city center. It's just a short walk away from York Minster. The closest railway station is York Railway Station, just 15 to 20 minutes from the gallery.

General admission is free for all visitors. Prices for tickets to a special exhibition and the rest of the museum vary from £4 to £8. You can also purchase an exhibition pass; it grants you access to all special exhibitions at the gallery for 12 months.
