You will start this self-guided tour at the museum entrance and visit the staterooms that served as former residences of general commandants and governors of the Habsburg Monarchy from the 18th until the 20th century. You will enjoy the fabulous interiors while strolling through 20 carefully decorated and completely restored halls with stunning interiors and valuable pieces of furniture. Also, you will see a few rooms that still exist in their original state, although the palace was almost destroyed during WWII. NOTE! The audio guide only covers the interior of the palace. Forty Rooms – forty fascinating stories from three centuries...Explore them with your own in-app audio tour! Please note the palace's opening hours—it closes at 16:15, so arrive before 15:00! This self-guided audio tour takes you through the entire piano nobile of the palace: in addition to the private apartments of Franz Joseph and Elisabeth, the south-facing reception rooms and the State Apartments, you will also get to see the rooms occupied by Maria Theresa. With their avowedly luxurious character, most of the rooms are also notable for their chinoiserie and East Asian decoration and furnishings, in particular the Blue Chinese Salon and the Vieux-Laque Room, which follow the Hall of Ceremonies. The Vieux-Laque Room was turned into a memorial room following the death of Emperor Franz Stephan. The Porcelain Room is followed by the Feketin Room, given its name by Maria Theresa, which became known shortly after the end of the Monarchy as the Millions Room on account of its precious rosewood paneling. The Gobelin Salon is hung with exquisite Brussels tapestries. The tour concludes with the so-called Rich Room, where the only surviving bed of state from the Viennese court is displayed.
