    About Discovery Museum

The Newcastle's Discovery Museum is open every day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays and from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekends.

The museum is closed on bank holidays and Christmas.

There is no wrong time to visit Newcastle's Discovery Museum. Still, we recommend going at 11:00 AM or noon to have enough time to explore.

The Newcastle's Discovery Museum lets you take a closer look at local history and culture. One of the highlights of the museum's collection is Turbinia, the world's first steam turbine-powered ship. Other permanent exhibitions include Destination Tyneside, which tells the stories of people who moved here at the start of the 20th century, and an immersive flight simulator.

The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions and activities for the entire family. Here are just some of the events available this fall at Newcastle's Discovery Museum:

    • Ghostly Trail. A fun game of hide-and-seek set across the entire building. Find all of the objects ghosts hide behind to win a spooky prize!
    • Stories and Spells with the Moss Troopers. Brew potions, craft spells, and tell stories in this exciting activity for children and adults alike.
    • Discover a Story. A family-friendly crafts and storytelling activity for children and grownups.
    • From Petticoats to the Front Line. This exhibition tells the history of women serving in the Light Dragoons.

Located not far from Newcastle City Center, Newcastle's Discovery Museum can be reached by bus or underground. The closest station in both cases is the Central Station, which is a seven-minute walk away from the museum.
