Foam is the museum for photography lovers, whether you are looking to discover contemporary, emerging talents or admire the work of iconic photographers from the previous century. The diversity of exhibitions on display invites visitors to explore the world of photography, ranging from historical vintage prints to contemporary fashion photography. Foam is located in a manor house along the beautiful canals, where the first museum for modern art of Amsterdam was opened in 1863. Hidden behind its historic façade you find a contemporary museum.
The Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam is open seven days a week, all year round. It welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM to 09:00 PM on Thursday and Friday. On other days, the museum closes earlier, at 06:00 PM.
The museum is usually less busy at the beginning of the week, so it is better to plan your visit for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning.
Being an international and multifaceted museum, Foam showcases all forms and aspects of photography, from art photographs to photojournalism. The museum hosts up to four exhibitions at the same time that present a wide variety of genres and topics. You can see glamorous fashion portraits, documentary pictures, and thought-provoking projects highlighting social justice issues.
The museum is well-known for its deep interest in young and upcoming photographers. You can see emerging talents next to world-famous photography icons. Look at the best works by rising stars who are going to shape the future of photography.
The Foam Photography Museum is located in the city center of Amsterdam, at Keizersgracht 609, a short walk from several light rail stations. The closest one is Muntplein, served by line 24.
If you prefer the subway, take line 52 and get off at the Vijzelgracht station. You will reach the museum in a 10-minute walk via Vijzelgracht street.
The museum tickets cost €12.50 for adults, €9.50 for students, and €8.50 for students under 18 and CJP Pass holders. Admission is free for children under 12, Foam Members, and holders of Museumkaart, I Amsterdam City Card, Stadspas, ICOM, VriendenLoterij VIP-card, and Holland Pass.
