Pioneer Plaza is named after the pioneers that founded Dallas, and the main highlight of the plaza is the larger-than-life cattle-drive sculpture. Dozens of bronze steers driven by three cowboys on horseback are traveling across a flowing stream, as they did in 19th-century Texas.
The sculpture is placed in native landscaping with artificial cliffs, a waterfall, and native plant life. The steers and cowboys look realistic, and you can easily imagine the past. The level of craftsmanship is incredibly high, and each animal has its own individual look, from facial expressions to hooves. You can see breathtaking details such as a tail swatting a fly and the historic "D" (for Dallas) branding marks on the steers' sides.
