    About Royal Dramatic Theatre

Royal Dramatic Theatre, also known as Dramaten, is open all year round, with a slight slowdown in mid-summer. Performances are scheduled daily, except for Mondays and major holidays, such as Christmas Day. If you are not interested in attending the show, you can admire the building from the outside anytime.

There are several running stages and no shortage of exciting shows every week. Most of them take place in the evening, at 07:00 PM. All performances are typically in Swedish, so it is better to check in advance if the chosen show is subtitled in English.

From May to September, you can also visit the theater’s restaurant, which features a terrace with a fantastic sea view.

    • Admire the majestic building

Since 1908, the theater has been housed in a grand, ornate building designed by the prominent Swedish architect Fredrik Lilljekvist. This piece of architecture is one of Sweden’s most representative and impressive Art Nouveau buildings. You can admire its flamboyant decoration, Neo-Baroque elements, and sculptural forms borrowed from Swedish nature.

    • Explore the amazing surroundings

The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm is situated along the luxurious boulevard on the waterfront at Nybroviken bay. In the corner next to the theater, you can find a bronze figure of Sweden’s most beloved actress Margaret Krook. The statue features a unique coil to heat the cold bronze to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius). It remains warm all year round, but the effect is strongest in the winter.

    • Watch an exciting show

The theater presents around 1,000 performances annually. Its repertoire includes Swedish and international classics, as well as modern works and experimental shows. There are always plenty of exciting options to choose from.

The Royal Dramatic Theatre is located in the very center of Stockholm on the Strandvägen waterfront promenade and is easily accessible by public transportation. It is a 5-minute walk from Östermalmstorg metro station, served by the Red line, and a few steps from two ferry terminals, Nybrokajen and Strandvägen, so you can get to the theater by local ferry and admire the views of the city from the water.

Also, you can take light rail line 7 or bus routes 69 or 76 to Nybroplan stop, which is right in front of the theater.
