Stroll along the streets of the Jewish Quarter and discover the history of the Jewish community in Berlin with the help of this self-guided audio tour. This historic district was once the vibrant center of Jewish life in the city. Jews settled here since the late 1600s, from the time they were allowed to live in Berlin. At the end of the 19th century, it was a prosperous, flourishing Jewish community. But the tragic events of the 20th century – the Nazis regime and the Holocaust - destroyed the lives of the Jewish Quarter dwellers. However, the memory of them is still preserved to this day. Trace the history of this historic neighborhood and learn more about the Jewish heritage in Berlin. You will start your journey at the Old Jewish cemetery where among many others, great philosopher and theologian Moses Mendelssohn is buried. Admire the magnificent building of the Neue Synagogue and listen to some personal stories connected with this “Temple.” Hear about life in the Jewish Quarter during the Holocaust and reflect on the heroism and resilience of Jewish people.
