The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library

The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library is the flagship branch of the Dallas Public Library system and is located in downtown Dallas, Texas. It was named after J. Erik Jonsson, a former mayor of Dallas, co-founder of Texas Instruments, and philanthropist who played a significant role in the growth and development of the city. The building itself is a stunning example of modernist architecture, designed by the renowned architect Ricardo Legorreta and completed in 1982.

The library is spread over eight floors and covers an area of 240,000 square feet, making it one of the largest public libraries in the United States. The collection of the library is extensive and diverse, including over 1.5 million books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials, as well as a special collection of Texana materials that documents the history of Texas.

The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library is not just a place to borrow books. It also serves as a community hub, offering a wide range of programs and services to the public.
