About Edinburgh Dungeon

The address is 31 Market Street, Edinburgh EH1 1DF.

The Dungeon is located in the city center, a stone's throw from Edinburgh Waverley train station.

Buses stop nearby on North Bridge (2 min walk) and Princes Street (5 min walk). There is also a tram stop on Princes Street (8 min walk).

The Dungeon is open daily from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (opening times vary throughout the year, so checking the official website in advance is recommended).

On Fridays, there is admission to Dungeon Lates (adults only) between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

The attraction is closed from the 24th to the 26th of December in 2022.

The Dungeon is less crowded around the day's start and end. Weekdays are usually less busy.

One of the nine Dungeons across Europe, the Edinburgh Dungeon offers an immersive and interactive experience, an underground journey through the darkest pages of Edinburgh's history. Live actors, macabre theatricals, creepy atmosphere, and gallows humor - a century of dark Scottish history in a 70-min tour. Among the ten scary brilliant shows at the Dungeon are:

  • Agnes Finnie: Witches' Judgement, one of the guests' favorites focusing on the infamous Edinburgh citizen who was executed for witchcraft
  • Cannibal Cave: face Sawney Bean, head of a 16th-century cannibal clan that killed over 1,000 people
  • The Anatomy Theatre: observe the autopsy of a victim of Burke & Hare, Edinburgh's most notorious serial killers of the 19th century
  • Castle Ghosts: witness the final moments of Mary Queen of Scots, who was beheaded in 1587
  • Drop Ride: learn what it feels like to drop from the gallows 30 m high!

I stumbled upon this audio walking tour, and it was the best experience. I not only got to see some of the stand out attractions, but also. Some of the staple buildings and theaters of Seattle. It really gave me a sense for the culture in the city. I especially loved the $9 price tag. Thank you thank you! -Cybill
