It's an in-app audio tour, which means you can enjoy a flexible and personal journey through the Sassi di Matera. The walk begins at the entrance of the Sassi, where ancient cave homes meet the eye, and ends at the stunning viewpoint of the Cathedral of Saint Mary 'della Bruna' and Saint Eustace. Along the way, travelers will pass through hauntingly beautiful churches like Santa Maria de Idris, charming squares such as Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, and explore unique cave dwellings like Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario. Each stop on the ten-point route is an invitation to step back in time, to a place where the city's history, spirituality, and creativity come alive. Listen to stories of how the people of Matera adapted their homes and lives to the challenging terrain. Pause at the Belvedere di Murgia Timone for a sweeping view that captures the essence of the Sassi's rugged beauty. Travelers will come away with vivid memories of walking Matera's storied alleys, climbing its ancient staircases, and being captivated by the town's remarkable harmony with its natural landscape.
