La Conciergerie Ticket & In-App Audio Tour: From Royal Palace to Prison
La Conciergerie Ticket & In-App Audio Tour: F...

Take this in-app audio tour with a ticket to explore the iconic Conciergerie! Standing in the center of Paris is a medieval Palace that is over 1000 years old. Built on top of Roman foundations, the Palace was home to the Kings of the Capetian dynasty who ruled France from 987 to 1848. Over the centuries each king embellished the Royal Palace, building the largest civic hall in Europe, adding kitchens, gardens and chapels. When the royal court was moved to the Louvre in 1360, the building was transformed into a prison, under the supervision of a warden known as the Concierge, thus the name of the building. The prison became (in)famous during the French Revolution of 1789 when some 4200 prisoners were held and tried at the Conciergerie for counter-revolutionary activities. This in-app audio tour with a ticket allows you to discover this medieval palace, over 1000 years old, at your own pace. As you stroll through the exhibits, you will listen to the audio commentary and "meet" some of the more famous prisoners, such as Marie Antoinette and Madame Roland, who tragically died for a cause she believed in. Note! This tour is not affiliated with the Conciergerie but is provided by an independent creator. Tickets are included for the customer's convenience.

Directions

Orsay Museum stands on the Seine in Paris’s 7th arrondissement, near Esplanade Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and Rue de la Légion d’Honneur.

The Orsay Museum in Paris occupies a monumental former railway station built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle, giving the museum its striking vaulted interior and iconic clock faces. After the station’s rail use declined, the building was transformed into a museum dedicated mainly to art from 1848 to 1914, bridging the gap between the Louvre and modern art collections. Today, it is internationally celebrated for its rich holdings of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces, alongside sculpture, decorative arts, and photography. Its setting is part of its appeal: visitors experience major European art within one of Paris’s most memorable adaptive-reuse landmarks, where Beaux-Arts architecture and world-famous collections come together in a uniquely atmospheric space.

Before you enter

  • Check opening days carefully; Orsay Museum is closed on Mondays.
  • Thursday offers extended evening hours in Paris until 9:45 PM.
  • Arrive at opening for quieter galleries and easier photo moments.
  • Wear comfortable shoes; the museum is large enough for several hours of walking.

  • The former station architecture is a highlight, with a grand central nave and huge clocks.
  • Collections include paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and photography.
  • The layout feels more manageable than larger Paris museums, but there is still plenty to see.

During your visit

  • Start with your priority artists first, then explore secondary galleries afterward.
  • Use Thursday evening if you prefer a less compressed visit.
  • Pause to admire the building itself, not only the artworks.
  • Plan at least two to three hours for a satisfying visit.
