    About Museum of Modern Art

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is open every day except Wednesdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The standard working hours are 10:00 AM – 05:00 PM, but on Thursday, the museum opens at 1:00 PM and closes at 08:00 PM.

The museum is really huge, and there is always plenty of space for visitors to spread out. However, if you want to enjoy the art pieces in the quietest time, you can come early in the morning on any weekday.

Make sure that you have enough time to explore the collection. Set aside at least 3–4 hours.

    • Seven floors to explore

The SFMOMA is one of the largest museums in the United States and home to more than 33,000 artworks. Start at the top floor and enjoy your way down, exploring the permanent and temporary exhibitions.

    • The greatest names of the 20th century

The museum collection includes sculptures and paintings created by the most prominent artists of the last century. Marvel at works by Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, and many others.

    • Striking examples of contemporary art

The SFMOMA is a great place to discover new forms of art. Take a look at the thirty-foot-tall Living Wall on the museum terrace on Floor 3 and walk along this green art piece as if you were in a forest.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is located in the vibrant SoMA district at 151 Third Street and is easily accessible by public transportation.

There are two combined BART and Muni Metro stations — Powell Street and Montgomery Street — within a 10-minute walk from the museum entrance. Both stations are served by Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue BART train lines and J, K/T, M, and N light rail lines.

You can also reach the museum by bus or even by the iconic San Francisco cable car. The closest station is Powell St & Market St, served by lines PM and PH.
