Vancouver Aquarium: Entry Ticket
The aquarium was wonderful. My six year old grandson had the best time. Lots of great exhibits and a virtual dive with sharks on the way out topped it off. Definitely buy your tickets online to avoid the lineup.

Directions

From the West End, walk or cycle into Stanley Park; Vancouver Aquarium is at 845 Avison Way.

Vancouver Aquarium has been a Stanley Park landmark since it opened in 1956 as Canada’s first public aquarium. For generations of Vancouver families, it has been a place to encounter aquatic life and learn about the waters surrounding British Columbia. Today, its exhibits pair local marine species with animals from ecosystems farther afield, reflecting a longstanding emphasis on public education and conservation. Indoor galleries and outdoor habitats offer different ways to observe the animals, with seals and sea lions among the visitor favourites. Its setting also gives the aquarium a distinctive place in the West End experience: a visit can connect what you see inside with the coastal environment of Stanley Park just beyond its doors.

Before you enter

  • Check the aquarium’s current hours before setting out; the listed regular hours are 10 am–5 pm daily.
  • Allow at least a couple of hours to explore both indoor galleries and outdoor habitats.
  • Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to combine your visit with a Stanley Park walk.

What to expect

  • Expect a mix of British Columbia marine life and species from farther afield.
  • The layout includes indoor and outdoor areas, so dress for Vancouver’s changeable weather.
  • Families will find signs and maps useful for navigating the exhibits.

During your visit

  • Pause at the outdoor seal and sea lion habitats; visitors often spend extra time watching them.
  • Read the exhibit signs for context on animals and conservation.
  • Check on-site schedules for any presentations or hands-on activities available that day.
