Xcaret Park occupies a stretch of Caribbean coast shaped by the Maya’s long connection to the sea. The area was once part of a network of coastal settlements and travel routes, and archaeological remains within the park offer a glimpse of that earlier landscape. Today, Xcaret is an eco-archaeological park that brings together natural features and presentations of Mexican culture. Its underground rivers and caves reveal the limestone terrain characteristic of the Yucatán Peninsula, while performances introduce visitors to music, dance, and traditions from across Mexico. Rather than presenting history through a single monument, Xcaret Park in Playa del Carmen places traces of the past alongside the living environment and contemporary cultural expression. The evening show is a prominent example, using performance to tell stories from Mexico’s history.

Before you enter

  • Check current hours and the evening performance schedule before planning your day.
  • Bring swimwear, a change of clothes, and footwear comfortable for wet paths.
  • Pack sun protection and a waterproof pouch for essentials.

What to expect

  • Allow a full day: the park combines waterways, wildlife areas, cultural exhibits, and performances.
  • Expect substantial walking between attractions.
  • Some water activities may have separate requirements or charges; check what your entry includes.

During your visit

  • Visit the waterways early, then explore shaded exhibits during the hottest hours.
  • Use the park map to group nearby attractions and avoid backtracking.
  • Leave time to find a seat before the evening show.
