Zoo Atlanta: Entry Ticket

Start your day in Atlanta and end up in the African Savanna. Meet stomping elephants and lanky giraffes. Say *Hakuna Matata* to warthogs and meerkats, just don't be offended if they don't burst into song! The zoo is home to one of North America's largest populations of great apes. See the most mysterious of them in action at the orangutan complex. Did you know the name orangutan comes from _Orang Hutan_, which means 'Person of the Forest'? Well, you do now. And you'll learn lots more fun facts about our animal friends at Zoo Atlanta! Keep things chill like the Aldabra tortoises - the second-largest species of tortoise in the world. There are monkeys, pandas, otters, and more weird looking birds and reptiles than you'd find in Jurassic Park.

About Zoo Atlanta

This zoo is in Grant Park, several minutes from Atlanta’s downtown district. The best way to reach the zoo is by subway and bus. Disembark at West End Station of the Gold or Red Line, then board bus 832 to go directly to the zoo. Alternatively, you can exit the subway from King Memorial Station and ride bus 9 to reach your destination.

The zoo is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last opportunity to enter the zoo is at 3:30 p.m.

If you want to avoid crowds, it is preferable to visit this zoo outside the tourist season, either in spring or autumn. We also suggest going there on weekdays, since there will be fewer visitors.

Housing more than one thousand animals, Zoo Atlanta is a must-see attraction in Atlanta. Let’s see what you can do at this zoo:

  • Observe multiple unique habitats. These habitats represent various real-world biomes existing in the wild. Among these biomes are Cloud Forests, Mountains, African Savanna, Woodlands, and many others.
  • Visit one of the three places in the US that display pandas. These endangered animals are a rarity in the United States; their presence alone makes Zoo Atlanta worth a visit.
  • Learn more about the animals and their habits from animal experts. Keeper Talks let visitors ask questions to zoo keepers about any animal currently located in the zoo. Many of these conversations allow you to observe animals’ feeding habits.
  • Enjoy fun rides. Among attractions in this category are the petting zoo, treetop trail, splash fountain, and the Zoo Train.
  • Get closer to the animals. Wild Encounters let you pet and feed different animals in the zoo, like lemurs, elephants, warthogs, tortoises, and pandas.
