Directions

From Levallois-Perret, take Métro line 3 to Saint-Lazare, then line 13 to Champs-Élysées–Clemenceau.

Although sometimes listed with Levallois-Perret attractions, the Champs-Élysées is in Paris, linking Place de la Concorde with the Arc de Triomphe. Its origins reach back to the 17th century, when André Le Nôtre laid out a tree-lined promenade west of the Tuileries. The route developed into a grand avenue over the following centuries; its name refers to the Elysian Fields of Greek mythology. It has long served as a setting for national celebrations, including victory parades and the annual Bastille Day military parade. Today, its broad pavements, trees, shops, cinemas and cafés make it both a ceremonial landmark and an everyday Parisian street. The Arc de Triomphe anchors its western end, while the lower stretch leads toward gardens and cultural venues.

Before you enter

  • Choose a starting point: Place de la Concorde for an uphill walk, or the Arc de Triomphe for the reverse.
  • Check the weather; much of the avenue is exposed to sun and rain.
  • Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk its full length.

What to expect

  • This is a public avenue, not a single enclosed attraction.
  • Expect broad pavements, frequent crossings and heavy traffic beside the pedestrian areas.
  • The atmosphere shifts from gardens near Concorde to shopping streets toward the Arc de Triomphe.

During your visit

  • Use marked crossings and follow traffic signals, especially around the Arc de Triomphe.
  • Step into the lower gardens for a break from the main shopping stretch.
  • Look back along the avenue to appreciate its straight-line view toward Place de la Concorde.
