About Peggy Guggenheim Collection

You can visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day, except for Tuesdays.

You can find this museum between the Church of Santa Maria della Salute and the Accademia Bridge on the Grand Canal.

The best way to reach it is by vaporetto; the closest stops to this museum are Accademia and Salute. The Accademia stop is available on both Line 1 and 2, while the Salute stop is exclusive to Line 2.

The museum is an indoor attraction open throughout the year that you can visit anytime. We suggest going there on weekdays or in the morning to avoid the crowds of tourists.

This museum is one of Venice's most popular tourist attractions, which isn’t surprising, considering its reputation and history. The museum is home to Peggy Guggenheim’s vast art collection gathered during WWII. Here are some things you can do at this museum:

  • Marvel at the extensive collection of art. Peggy Guggenheim was an eccentric and avid art enthusiast; the bulk of the museum’s exhibits are from her art collection. Here, you can admire the works of American modernists and Italian futurists from such diverse genres as Surrealism, Cubism, and abstract expressionism. The collection includes works by Renė Magritte, Jackson Pollock, Vasily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Kazimir Malevich, and many other renowned artists.
  • See the home of the legendary Peggy Guggenheim. This museum is not only an exhibition space for Guggenheim’s collection – it was her home for three decades. Palazzo Venier dei Leoni is an 18th-century building that wasn’t completed for a long time. The current iteration of the palace is the result of extensive renovations during the first half of the 20th century. You can walk through a beautiful garden behind the palace and marvel at the art in the pavilion surrounding the garden.
  • Learn more about this larger-than-life art collector. Your visit to this museum wouldn’t be complete without learning about Peggy Guggenheim herself. For her, art and life were inextricably linked, and you can feel it everywhere in the museum.
