The route starts at Daisy Nook Country Park and follows a compact waterside trail through woodland paths, canal features, and historic working sites before ending back in Daisy Nook Country Park. Along the way, you will encounter the opened-out Boodle Tunnel and Boodle Tunnel itself, then continue to the view of Waterhouses Aqueduct and Locks and the aqueduct. The walk also takes in Lock 19, the gate recess, the staircase locks, Waterhouses Pumping Station, canal cottages, Sammy's Basin, Waterhouses Junction, Pinch Farm Bridge, Crime Lake, Crime Bridge, the coal loading staithe, and the site and outlet of the pumping station. This route reveals how a quiet country park still carries the marks of the canal age, from lock chambers and aqueduct engineering to traces of coal transport and water management. The most memorable moments include standing beside the staircase locks, looking out across the aqueduct, discovering the secluded waters of Crime Lake, and sensing the contrast between birdsong, woodland calm, and the area’s hardworking industrial past.
