    About Porta Palatina

The Porta Palatina is available to all visitors every day of the week without any restrictions.

We recommend visiting this landmark during spring or autumn to avoid crowds of other visitors. It’s also preferable to go there during the day since you won’t be able to explore it properly at night.

This ancient gateway is one of the most well-preserved architectural monuments of Ancient Rome worldwide. Here are some of the things you can do there:

    • Take a walk through time. The Porta Palatina was built during the 1st century; it served as one of the entry points to the ancient Roman city of Augusta Taurinorum. It stands today as a reminder of a bygone age in the middle of the beautiful city of Turin.
    • Examine bronze statues of Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar. These statues aren’t the originals but copies from the latest restoration of 1934. They remain a topic for discussion due to their incorrect placement at the gates. However, that doesn’t diminish their beauty and majesty.
    • Explore the nearby park. The entrance isn’t a standalone landmark; it’s a part of a small park whose goal is to give people a break from chaotic and busy city life.

You can find this landmark in the city center of Turin. Reaching it by public transport is very easy. Buses, trams, trains, and the metro are all viable options to get to the Porta Palatina.

Bus routes 5, 8, 11, 19, 56, 58, and 72 will take you to this landmark; the closest bus stops include Duomo – Musei Reali, Flochetto, and Bertola. Take line M1 of Turin’s metro, exit at the Re Umberto stop.
