Malaga: Museo Picasso Entry Ticket
Malaga: Museo Picasso Entry Ticket

Discover the Picasso Museum Málaga with your entry ticket. Located in the beautiful 16th-century Palacio, not far from Casa Natal, where Picasso was born, and the Church of Santiago, where he was baptized, the museum offers a unique and intimate perspective on the life of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Málaga is famous as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. And though the artist’s family moved to Barcelona when he was only around 10 years old, Picasso always felt a very deep and strong connection with the city of Málaga. It all started here: the first etudes, the love of art, the love of Spain. It is natural that Pablo Picasso wanted his works to have a place in Málaga. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen during the life of the artist. The museum was founded only in 1996. Nowadays, the museum is home to more than 200 works of the legendary artist. They cover most of Picasso’s artistic periods and represent different techniques the genius artist worked in, including sculptures and ceramics.

Directions

In central Málaga, head to the Roman Theatre on Calle Alcazabilla; the Alcazaba entrance is nearby.

Begun in the 11th century under Muslim rule, the Alcazaba de Málaga served as both a fortress and a residence for the city’s rulers. Its position above the harbor made it a strategic stronghold, while later rulers reshaped its gateways, courtyards, and gardens. A fortified passage linked it to Gibralfaro Castle higher up the hill. Inside, layered walls and horseshoe arches frame small pools, planted courtyards, and views across Málaga toward the Mediterranean. The Roman Theatre at the foot of the fortress makes the city’s successive Roman and Islamic periods visible in one place. Today, the Alcazaba is one of Málaga’s most evocative reminders of medieval al-Andalus and its architectural legacy.

Before you enter

  • Wear shoes with good grip; the route includes slopes, steps, and uneven paving.
  • Bring water and sun protection, especially in warmer months.
  • Check current opening hours before setting out; they may vary by season.

What to expect

  • Expect a gradual uphill walk through gates and defensive walls.
  • Look for courtyards, pools, arches, and views over central Málaga.
  • Allow at least an hour to explore without rushing.

During your visit

  • Pause at the gateways to see how the winding approach helped defend the fortress.
  • Take your time on worn stone steps, particularly after rain.
  • Visit the Roman Theatre below to see another layer of the city’s history.
