About The Amsterdam Dungeon

This tourist attraction is open daily. On weekdays and Sundays, its opening times are from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Saturdays, the Amsterdam Dungeon is open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

It’s an indoor attraction you can visit any time of the year. We suggest you go there on weekdays or in the morning to avoid crowds. We also strongly recommend booking tickets in advance on the official website. If you’re a fan of Halloween, you’re in luck: in October, the entire dungeon is dedicated to this spooky holiday.

Set in a real old church, the Amsterdam Dungeon takes on a trip through the most morbid and gruesome moments of Amsterdam’s 500-year history. It's an interactive experience unlike any other! So what’s in store for the visitors of the Amsterdam Dungeon?

  • Descend into the dark, creepy, and not empty dungeons on a medieval lift. It's the starting point of the Amsterdam Dungeon.
  • Take a closer look at the torture during the Middle Ages. Punishments during this dark age were notoriously creative and painful; now, you get to learn just how much that is true. Just steer clear of the Torturer, and you’ll be fine.
  • Encounter the cursed captain of The Flying Dutchman. It’s been 10 years since this sinister ship disappeared, and today its captain returns from the sea with vengeance on his mind. Lucky you?
  • Witness a witch burning. This grim execution was one of many ways to kill a witch, but it’s the most well-known. See the cruel fate of one such witch in the dark of the Amsterdam Dungeon.

The Amsterdam Dungeon is at the heart of Amsterdam on Rokin; getting there is easy.

This attraction is just 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station; alternatively, you can board trams 4, 14, and 24 at this station and disembark at the Spui/Rokin tram stop. The closest underground stations to the Amsterdam Dungeon are Rokin and Nieuwmarkt.
