Picture yourself cycling past a 25-meter satirical masterpiece that cost €300,000 to create – knowing it will burn in flames within days. Now imagine seeing all nine of these temporary giants in a single day while others struggle with closed streets and unpredictable transport. This self-guided bike tour unlocks the impossible: visiting every Special Section Falla – the festival's most prestigious monuments – plus Valencia's major attractions, all at your own pace. These aren't just sculptures; they're multi-story theatrical installations with animatronics, intricate lighting, and biting social commentary that spares nothing. Pedal through Valencia's flat, bike-friendly streets with complete freedom. Stop whenever inspiration strikes – a fallera in an elaborate silk gown, a street vendor frying buñuelos, the perfect photo angle. Take a two-hour paella lunch? Absolutely. Linger at your favorite Falla for thirty minutes? It's your day. The audio guide waits patiently while you explore. Along the route, glide past medieval towers, Art Nouveau boulevards, and the stunning Turia Gardens. Feel the ground shake during the daily 2PM mascletà explosion. Directions

Find Mercado Central at Plaça de la Ciutat de Bruges in Valencia’s old town, opposite the Silk Exchange.

Mercado Central has served Valencia’s everyday food culture for generations, but its present home is a landmark of Valencian Modernisme. Construction began in 1914, and the market opened in 1928 on a historic trading site. Architects Alexandre Soler i March and Francesc Guàrdia i Vial designed a spacious hall where ironwork, glass, and colorful ceramics combine function with ornament. Look up at the domes and stained glass, then explore aisles of produce, fish, meat, and other foods. Facing the Gothic Silk Exchange, the market places two chapters of Valencia’s commercial history side by side. It remains a working food market, not just an architectural sight: its stalls offer a glimpse of the ingredients, routines, and tastes that shape local life.

Before you enter

  • Check the day before setting out: the market opens Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closes Sunday.
  • Bring a reusable bag if you plan to buy produce or other food.
  • Allow time to admire the building’s exterior and its setting beside the Silk Exchange.

What to expect

  • Expect a working market, with stalls selling fresh produce, seafood, meats, and local specialties.
  • Look up for colorful tiles, stained glass, and the market’s domes.
  • The busiest aisles may feel crowded, especially later in the morning.

During your visit

  • Browse the aisles before choosing a stall; offerings vary by section.
  • Keep clear of shoppers and stallholders when stopping for photos.
  • Ask before photographing vendors or their displays.
  • If buying fresh food, consider how you’ll carry or store it afterward.
