Directions

Torres de Serranos stands at Plaça dels Furs, on Valencia’s old town edge near the Turia Gardens.

Torres de Serranos is one of Valencia’s most important medieval monuments and one of the surviving gateways from the former city walls. Built between 1392 and 1398 in Gothic style under architect Pere Balaguer, the towers were designed as part of the city’s defensive system while also serving as a grand ceremonial entrance for visitors and officials. Their massive stone structure, elevated terraces, and commanding position reflect both military purpose and civic pride. Today, Torres de Serranos remains a powerful symbol of historic Valencia, linking the old city to the former riverbed of the Turia and offering visitors a vivid sense of the city’s medieval past, architecture, and urban identity.

Before you enter

  • Check current opening hours before visiting; Sunday closing time is earlier.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for climbing stairs and walking on stone surfaces.
  • Bring water and sun protection in warmer months around Valencia.
  • Visit early in the day for cooler temperatures and better photos.
  • Keep your phone or camera ready for panoramic city views from the top.

What to expect

  • Expect a Gothic gateway with thick walls, towers, and open upper terraces.
  • The climb is short but involves stairs, with no lift mentioned.
  • Views stretch over Valencia’s old town and the Turia riverbed area.
  • You’ll see details of defensive architecture rather than large interior exhibitions.
  • The site is compact, making it easy to combine with nearby Ciutat Vella sights.

During your visit

  • Take time to admire both the exterior façade and the city-facing inner side.
  • Pause at the top for views toward the historic center and gardens.
  • Watch your step on stairs and uneven stone surfaces.
  • Visit the surrounding square and bridge for the best exterior photos.
  • Go slowly if you dislike heights; upper viewpoints are open and elevated.
