Directions

Russafa is in Valencia’s Eixample district, a short walk south of the city center and Estació del Nord.

Russafa, also spelled Ruzafa, is one of Valencia’s most characterful central neighborhoods, now part of the Eixample district. Its name comes from an earlier Islamic-era settlement and gardened area outside the historic core, reflecting Valencia’s layered past. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the area was absorbed into the expanding city, giving rise to the elegant grid of streets and many Modernist and early 20th-century residential buildings seen today. At its heart, the Mercat de Russafa remains a key local landmark and a daily social hub. Today Russafa is known for blending historic architecture, independent shops, galleries, cafés, and nightlife, making it an important cultural center in contemporary Valencia.
